Thiss morning the opening event at M Shed took place. It was sold out with over 100 visitors!

There was a nice and wide programme with speeches and contributions from Alastair Watson (Master of Ceremonies), Lord Mayor of Bristol, Tim Illston (German Honorary Consul in Bristol), Josette Lebrat (French Honorary Consul in Bristol), David Vowles and Steve Howie about their relationship to Bordeaux and Hannover, Valerie Bonnet (Association Bordeaux-Bristol) and Dr. Ann Kennard (Chair of Bristol Hannover Council).

The programme was enriched by different schools from Bristol (Ilminster E-Act Academy Yr 1, Ashton Gate Primary, Colston Girls School and Cotham School) which sang lovely songs in French, recited a poem and sang a song in German and performed a little play in German. The audience was really enthusiastic about these performances from these young people. The youngest of them were just five years old but they gave brilliant performances.

After the official programme everybody was cordially invited to have coffee, juice and cake. Thereby many great chats emerged among all the different visitors, it did not matter whether you are from Hannover, Bristol or Bordeaux.

In conclusion, the event has shown us again the importance of twinning between cities to build international friendships and how to keep them up through the years. In addition, the children revealed us that it is necessary and fun to learn foreign languages to expand one’s horizons.

We are looking forward to more exciting events! Check out our event site for more information.
